The First Annual Philosophy and Art Conference: VEILS, will take place at Stony Brook Manhattan on March 28 - 29th, 2008. We are thrilled to announce that Professor Rosalind Krauss (Columbia University) will deliver the keynote address on March 28th, in the evening. Her talk will be titled "The Parergon's Veil."

The Freewheel Community Bicycle Shop meets in the Student Union room 024 (basement). Volunteers and members of the community repair donated and found bicycles, offer free and/or low-cost repairs, and leads bicylce education programs (based on student interest and instructor availability).   Freewheel encourages and celebrates bike riding as an ecologically and economically sound form of transportation by organizing community rides and "Free Bike Repair" days.

Kristina Wong combines a zany sense of humor with biting insight in Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, a swear-to-god-not-autobiographical portrayal of the high incidence of anxiety, depression, and mental illness among Asian American women. Using monologues, movement, and a host of pop culture references, Wong appropriates visual materials, such as a set of unfinished knitting, as well as print brochures and TV advertisements dealing with mental illness, as comedic foils while probing the seriousness of the subject.
