The GSO is the graduate student government at the Stony Brook University. The GSO is incorporated in the State of New York as a nonprofit organization and is legally and structurally independent of the university administration.
The GSO's purpose is to identify and protect the rights of graduate students, advance their interests, provide a forum for public debate, and promote graduate student participation in university affairs. The Graduate Student Organization is committed to affirmative action/equal employment laws and to prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex, race ethnicity, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, or veteran status. Membership in the GSO shall consist of all graduate students who are enrolled at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and paying student activity fees. Any member of the GSO is eligible to be an officer of the GSO, and may serve on any GSO committee. All members of the GSO are eligible to vote in officer elections, referenda, and other organization-wide ballots. All members of the GSO vote equally.
Location: The GSO offices are located in Rooms 227 and 226 in the Student Activities Center (SAC). Campus map

Occasionally, the office manager has to run errands and may be out of the office when you come by. In this case, leave a phone message and number by calling the campus phone opposite the GSO office and we will get back to you. If you are there to pick up Travel Money (RAP), Department Allocation, or Senator Election form, please note that they are available in the folders on the notice board next to the door.
